  • Short Description: Rasa and Emotion in Performance and Somatic Practice: In Sanskrit, the word “rasa” means essence, or flavor, and corresponds to both elements of the physical body and the tastes of food that we enjoy when they combine with our bodies. In performance, it corresponds to the emotions that can be savored and shared, bodily, by performers and spectators. In this workshop, we will explore rasa and emotion as elements of somatic practice, how they shape our relationship to self, other, and environment, and ways of integrating them in our exploration of BESS, developmental patterns and work with the body systems. We’ll look at how this applies to everyday life, theater and dance, and activism.
